$24m fund approved for pet owners

December 1: Final approval has been given by a Canadian court for a $24 million fund to pay owners of pets killed or injured by poisoned canned food that was produced by Menu Foods.
The approval follows a similar move by a US district court in October and resolves more 100 class-action lawsuits filed in US and Canadian courts.
They are the outcome of claims made in North America after pets were affected last year by a wide range of products from Menu Foods that were found to contain melanine, the same chemical that caused an infant formula scare in China.
