December 3: Intricate objects are easier to paint using an electrostatic gun developed by ICI Paints and canmaking company Crown Aerosols Europe.
The Hammerite Metalmaster system uses Crown’s Bican aerosol system for the refill cartridges in the paint gun. The bi-compartment cans, using technology developed by Crown, is designed to deliver a regular flow of the paint to the gun.
The regular flow is essential for the system, as once it reaches the gun the paint is electrostatically charged so that it clings to metal surfaces, enabling consumers to paint both sides of metal at once. The system is designed for complex metal structures such as fences and bicycle frames, and is said to be around four times faster than painting with a brush, and reduces paint wastage.
