June 8: Central Tin Container, the UK canmaking company that produces the cans used by Costa coffee for its recent switch from plastics pouches, is also making cans for a similar launch by Whittard of Chelsea.
Metal cans are the preferred choice of consumers for premium brand coffees, said Costa. The 99x130mm decorated cans, made at Central Tin Container’s factory at Liverpool and supplied with an aluminium membrane lid from Impress and plastics overcap, were also selected because they were recyclable, added the international brand owned by Whitbread. The multi-layer pouches previously used for the Costa Espresso brand couldn’t be recycled, it said.
