December 1: Wineries in Europe will be able to develop the use of cans for their wines with the granting of a licence to Ball Packaging Europe (BPE) to manufacture and supply cans suitable for the Barokes Vinesafe process.
BPE was one of a number of canmakers and wine producers that had since 2005 been challenging the application by Barokes Wines, the Australian winery that had developed the process, for a European patent.
The agreement with Barokes is said to enable Ball to participate in the growing wine-in-a-can product category in Europe as an approved Vinsafe supply-chain participant.
