Adjusting to a decline in North American demand for 12oz drinks cans, Ball Corporation is to stop production of the canmaking and end lines for this size at two of its plants by the end of the year, its global operations chief Ray Seabrook has announced.
It means the closure of the plants at Columbus, Ohio, and Gainsville, Florida, with consolidation of remaining production at its other 13 plants in mainland USA. Ball says it will be increasing production capacity for speciality can sizes such as the increasingly popular 8oz, slim 12oz, 16oz and 24oz versions.
