Better inspection provides boost for canners

April 24: Canners in the food and drinks industry will be able to check the quality of seamed cans with what is claimed to be the first high-definition automatic inspection system being launched at Cannex 2007 in Las Vegas this week.
The technology show, which opens for three days from 25 April, is host to a number of innovations in the metal packaging industry.
The seam checking system is being launched by Israel’s Quality by Vision, a leader in inspection equipment. Called SEAMetal HD, the system measures the closed seams optically without damaging the can and includes a 360-degree gauge measuring feature in the seam, enabling potential leakage to be more quickly identified.
