The recycling rate for used aluminium beverage cans in the US increased seven percentage points to 65.1 percent in 2011, making them the most highly recycled drinks container.
But while this marks a key step towards the US industry’s goal of recycling 75 percent of all drinks cans, it came in part as a result of imports of used beverage cans from Mexico, Canada and other countries, according to the Aluminum Association, the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI).
