November 12: A beverage can design that is more easily compressed by consumers for recycling has been proposed by two Korean students.

In reports that have been circulating in the blogosphere and on twitterati sites, Choi Kwenyoung and Park Jiwoon of Kongju National University are said to have designed a spirally-shaped can that can be twisted after use so that it takes up a third of its original size.

Called the NNew Can, the design’s manufacturing process hasn’t been explained, but some commentators suggest that it will be a technical challenge.
