January 20: Increased demand for self-heating canned meals from the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan is being met by UK-based Operational Support Ltd (OSL) with a faster manufacturing process and plans for a bigger production plant in Florida.
OSL has been producing its self-heating Hotcan range for around 30 years in the UK and four years ago launched the product on the retail market. Two years ago OSL entered the US in collaboration with its licensee GA Food Services and, amongst a range of customers, has been supplying the US military with half a million cans a month. It also provides for victims of natural disasters such as the effects of hurricanes.
