March 12: Canmakers in Brazil are investing in new beverage can manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand, which increased by 10 percent last year.
Shipments are estimated to have reached 11.3 billion last year. Of these, aluminium cans totaled 10.7bn, up from 9.7bn in 2005, according to the Brazilian association of aluminium canmakers Abralatas. The balance of 600m is made up of tinplate cans.
