Call for drinks container deposit hike in British Columbia

August 24: City councillors in British Columbia want to raise drinks container deposits to improve recycling rates.

In Vancouver, soft drinks cans and bottles attract a 5 cent deposit while alcoholic drinks attract 10 cents. Those over a litre attract 20 cents.

“We want increased recycling,” said Metro Vancouver waste management committee chair Marvin Hunt.
