May 19: Work is well advanced on England’s first new canmaking plant to be built for almost 20 years.
Poland-based Can-Pack is constructing the beverage can plant at Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire, its first in Western Europe.
The plant, plans for which were first revealed in The Canmaker in March 2007, will start up before the end of 2008 and eventually have capacity to make 2 billion aluminium drinks cans a year.
More than 8 billion cans are used in the UK each year by the beer and beverage industry, growing at 4 percent a year.
