Canvironment Week has started in India with seven days of activity to promote the environmental benefits of using metal packaging, organised by canmaking firm Hindustan Tin Works.
Culminating on November 17, the birthday of Frenchman Nicolas Appert who first developed food preservation techniques more than 200 years ago, the second yearly Canvironment Week includes the Canilicious food ‘canter’ road show, painting competitions for children of rag pickers, health camps and, in December, an inter-college musical event at Delhi University called ‘Can Cussion’.
This year Canvironment Week’s ambassador is Indian television actress Drashti Dhami, who stars in the popular television series Geet – HuiSabseParayi.
