August 31: Leading Europe-based canmaker Impress has agreed to buy the Australasian food and aerosol canmaking businesses of packaging giant Amcor.
The deal announced last night, which is subject to regulatory approvals, increases the global spread of Impress which recently established operations in Russia and Morocco, agreed a technical tie-up in China and planned to build a plant in Korea.
It also reinforces a long-standing supply deal with customer Heinz in Europe and the US: Heinz-Wattie is a key client for Amcor. Impress already provided technical assistance for Amcor.
