Canned fish demand rises in Brazil

January 20: Higher incomes and government initiatives in Brazil are raising domestic demand for canned fish. Sales of canned tuna and sardines are also benefiting from the economic crisis, according to Brazil’s leading brand, Gomes da Costa (GDC) part of Spain’s Calvo.

 

“We are witnessing an irreversible trend of growth in our consumer base,” GDC president Alberto Encinas told Brasil Econômico. “In times of crisis, people stay more at home and eat more canned food,” he said.
