September 5: More than half of US consumers would prefer to have canned foods in any emergency supplies in the event of a natural disaster.
Although self evident to those in the canmaking industry, the results of a survey carried out Harris Interactive on behalf of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) showed that consumers understood the benefits of canned products.
Some 55 percent said they would choose to have canned foods in their pantries, more than fresh or frozen, and shows the key role that such foods play in offering preparedness for events such as a hurricane or tornado.
