Canpack invests in second beverage can plant in Colombia

Global canmaker Canpack is to invest USD140 million in a second aluminium beverage can plant in Colombia as part of its long-term commitment to strengthen the industry in the country.

The plant will be located near Barranquilla, in the north of Colombia, and will have an installed capacity of about one billion aluminium cans per year. Production is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027.

Backed by a long-term agreement with a strategic customer, the new plant will bring around 160 direct jobs in Colombia’s Caribbean region, Canpack said.

“We are dedicated to the Colombian packaging industry and have been strengthening our presence in this dynamic market since opening Canpack’s first aluminum beverage can plant in Tocancipá back in 2019,” said Marius Croitoru, chief executive of Poland-based Canpack Group.

“We believe this new investment will give us a better position to serve the increasing market demand for beverage cans not only in Colombia but also in the neighboring countries.

“With this investment, Canpack reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability and regional economic development, projecting a positive impact on the industry, consumers and the local labor market.”

Canpack Colombia has been part of the Canpack Group since 2018.

Earlier this summer, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the expansion of Canpack’s beverage can plant at Bydgoszcz in Poland.

A fourth canmaking line, costing PLN440 million (USD122m), is being constructed at the plant.
