October 31: Fans of Hormel’s Chili in the US are already applauding the food company for making its cans easier to open now that they come with ring-pull lids.
Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods has switched to using Quick Top easy-open ends manufactured by Silgan Containers. Until now the chili in 15oz steel D&I cans was sold with conventional sanitary lids.
And an additional feature is that the 300-diameter easy-open lids have red-coloured tabs, matching the branding of the labels, a first for the chili category.
Easy-open lids are used on about 40 percent of food cans sold in North America.
