June 9: A shortage of carbon dioxide reduced demand for beverage cans from soft drinks companies in South Africa, and that affected profits at Nampak, Africa’s biggest packaging manufacturer.
Lower catches of pilchards also reduced demand for food cans, said Nampak’s chief executive John Bortolan when announcing its first-quarter results.
