October 15: Canmakers in China are thought to be preparing to build more two-piece aluminium beverage can lines to meet demand from China’s leading herbal tea producer Wanglaoji, which has started conversions at its filling lines from three-piece steel cans.
Herbal tea and fruit juices have provided demand for highly-decorated welded tinplate cans which can withstand the processing temperatures. More than eight billion cans a year are made by companies such as ORG and Cofco CPMC.
But Wanglaoji herbal tea, made by Guangzhou Wanglaoji Pharmaceutical Co, is now being filled on lines that can accept hot-filled aluminium cans using nitrogen injection systems to pressurise them.
