November 2: China’s fast-growing ORG is planning to build its first overseas canmaking plant in Africa next year.
The three-piece canmaker is setting up the plant in Nigeria to supply local tomato paste producer CMDO, ORG’s president James Zhou told The Canmaker.
To be commissioned in March 2008, the facility will be built in Lagos with an annual capacity of 150 million cans, a figure that will be doubled by 2011.
Managing director Joan Wei added that in China, ORG will open its eighth canmaking plant before the end of the year. The plant at Shaoxing city in the eastern Zhejiang province will feature one line for making three-piece tea cans with possible expansion next year for making DRD food cans, said Wei.
