April 24: A line for making easy-open ends with Chinese-made equipment started commercial production last month at the Oklahoma canmaking plant of Simmons Pet Foods.
Simmons is one of the few food producers in the US to make its own cans. Until three years ago it was buying cans from specialist manufacturers, but when company president Mitch Newton acquired Allied Pet Food he found that it was making its own cans more competitively.
