Consortium led by Esmark to buy Sparrows Point mill

August 8: A joint venture led by Chicago-based steel services company Esmark is to acquire the Sparrows Point tinplate mill from world-leading steel maker ArcelorMittal for an undisclosed sum.
The Sparrows Point operation, near Baltimore, is among ArcelorMittal’s largest US production plants with a crude steel capacity of 3.5 million tonnes a year, of which some 455,000 tonnes are tin mill products.
