As Crown Holdings opened new beverage can plants in China and Turkey, low demand for food cans in Europe hit sales in the second quarter.

Although beverage can volumes were up by 5 percent in the second quarter and 6 percent for the year to date, sales were US$2.18 billion, 4 percent down on the same period of 2011. Most of this was a due to a $101m unfavourable currency translation.
