September 19: Crown Holdings, the world’s biggest canmaker, has started negotiations with customers in a bid to raise can prices for 2008 to cover higher tinplate costs, it was revealed this week by chief executive John Conway and chief financial officer Alan Rutherford.
They were speaking at the 37th Bank of America annual investment conference in New York along with a number of other packaging manufacturers.
In North America, the tinplate price could rise by as much as 15 percent with an impact on the food can, metal closure and the aerosol can businesses. Prices are increasing in Europe as well.
