October 24: The world’s leading canmaking company will raise its tinplate food can prices in Europe by almost a third from the beginning of next year following rising costs in raw materials.
As of January 1, 2009 Crown Europe will increase its food can prices by 32 percent, with similar increases expected for aerosol cans, metal vacuum closures and speciality packaging. The precise cost increase will depend on the raw material content, the main driver behind the move.
“We have worked hard during 2008 to minimise the impact on our customers of both the inflationary pressures and supply constraints we suffered,” said Crown Europe president Chris Homfray.
