May 18: Details of the full-aperture ends used on Castle Lager beer cans during next month’s soccer World Cup in South Africa have been revealed.
The so-called ‘Cup Cans’ have been developed for brewer SABMiller in a move to improve safety at the soccer matches: when thrown, the cans empty more readily and are therefore less dangerous.
Pictures released by SABMiller show that the aluminium lids look like a development of Crown’s SuperEnd, which has been manufactured under licence by canmaker Nampak for a number of years in South Africa.
