Del Monte to focus on its growing petfood business

Del Monte Corp, whose name has been a virtual synonym for quality canned fruit and vegetables for decades and a key customer for the US canmaking industry, appears to be planning a sale of the business. The Del Monte brand debuted in 1886 to market coffee and became a brand for canned peaches in 1892.
