Demand for beverage cans in Brazil up 11.7 percent

March 11: Demand for beverage cans in Brazil grew to more than 40 million a day in 2009, pushed by higher average incomes, warmer weather and tougher anti-drink-driving legislation.

According to Abralatas, the Brazilian association of aluminium beverage canmakers, shipments in 2009 reached 14.8 billion cans, up 11.7 percent year-on-year.
