A proposal in Spain to introduce a deposit system for one-way drinks cans looks likely to be dropped following lobbying efforts by local canmaking interests and steel recyclers supported by Apeal, the European association of tinplate manufacturers.
The deposit system was proposed as part of Spain’s adoption of the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) within the legal system, which required changes to the 1998 Spanish Waste Act.
