European regulatory opinion on the safety of bisphenol A (BPA), a component in canmaking coatings, is not being changed as a result of a recent French report. The report had prompted the French lower house to propose a restriction on use of the chemical.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) was requested by the European Commission to study the report by French health and safety agency ANSES, which had advised that consumer warnings should be issued for “…household utensils and containers in contact with food…”.
