May 6: A €10,000 ($12,924) prize is being offered by Empac, the organisation representing European canmakers, to find the next step forward in improving sustainability in the metal packaging industry.

The competition, called The Next 200 Years as a reference to the future of metal packaging, celebrates the 200th anniversary of the first patent for the can by inviting teams of engineering and metallurgy students to develop innovations that further reduce the carbon footprint of cans, while benefiting consumers and manufacturers.
