John Hans, recently-appointed vice president of European Transformation at Heinz, has told European Metal Packaging (Empac) that it must improve the image of cans and capitalise on the messages of food safety, transport efficiency and recycling. “There is a real perception issue that we as an industry need to tackle,” he said.

He was speaking at the canmaking industry trade body Empac’s general assembly last week in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the importance of consistently communicating the advantages of metal was highlighted.
