December 1: Canmakers in Europe are evaluating their response to an EU waste directive vote that favours reusable over recyclable packaging.
It’s all part of a five-stage waste hierarchy in which prevention is regarded as the most environmentally-sound system, followed by re-use, recycling, other recovery operations and disposal.
Earlier this week the environmental committee of the European Parliament said it preferred to stick “as a general rule” to the current policy of waste hierarchy.
