October 30: Drinks can shipments in Europe are expected to break the 50 billion mark this year.
With strong demand for beverage cans in Spain, Scandinavia and eastern Europe continuing, growth is said by industry sources to have so far matched last year’s 10 percent, when shipments reached 45.5 billion.
“The beverage industry has been enjoying a strong growth so far this year and is expecting a volume growth in 2007 similar to last year,” said a spokesman for Beverage Can Makers Europe, the industry body representing the interests of members Ball Packaging Europe, Crown Bevcan Europe and Middle East, and Rexam Beverage Can Europe.
Another rise of 10 percent would bring shipments in 2007 to more than 50 billion.
