December 10: The recycling of steel used in canmaking reached a record 70 percent in Europe in 2008, says Apeal, the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging.
Some 2.5 million tonnes of food and drinks cans, and other steel containers, were recycled, saving the equivalent of 3.9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
It was an increase of 1.4 percentage points above 2007.
