First-ever gold award for wine in a can

March 6: Wine packed in a can has for the first time won a gold medal in an international competition, bringing canmaking technology to new heights of quality.
Australian winery Barokes, which last month also claimed a victory at the European Patent Office where its Vinsafe wine-in-a-can technology patent was confirmed, was awarded a gold medal in Germany at the 2009 Berlin Wein Trophy.
Melbourne-based Barokes won the gold medal for its Cabernet Shiraz Merlot in an 18.7cl aluminium can made by Malaysia’s leading canmaker Kian Joo.
