Food can sales boost Ball’s first quarter

April 24: Strong sales growth in US food cans and household products packaging was the highlight of Ball Corporation’s first-quarter results.
Sales were up by 7.5 percent to $284 million, while pre-tax earnings jumped to $49.6m compared with $14.8m in the first three months of 2008.
But total sales for the Colorado-based global packaging and aerospace company were down 8.6 percent to $1.59 billion, and net profits slipped 17 percent to $69.5m.
