October 22: Higher volumes of food cans resulting from the favourable size and timing of the North American seasonal fruit and vegetable pack, along with higher selling prices, helped increase Silgan’s third-quarter metal container sales by 16.1 percent to $716.5 million, compared with the same period in 2008.
“Our metal food container business benefited from significant year-over-year volume improvements driven primarily by one of the largest pack seasons in recent memory and solid operational performance,” said Silgan’s chief executive Tony Allott.
