Bio-based coatings derived from tomatoes could find commercial applications in the canmaking industry within two years if a European Commission-funded project is successful.
Companies from seven countries in the European canmaking and canning industry are behind the project, called BIOCOPAC, to develop the polyester coatings, which will use tomato skins as a source of bio-resins in their manufacture.
