March 27: Wine producers have a stronger nose for cans with two brands launched in the past fortnight.
Just two weeks ago, established brand Black Tower introduced a semi-sparkling wine in 20cl cans. Now, wine debutant Wild Pelican is due to be launched across the UK, Scandinavia and Benelux later this year in similar cans.
The three varieties of Wild Pelican – a Spanish red, a South African white, and a French rosé – will be rolled out in the on- and off-trade in the next few months, following a test run in ski resorts in the French Alps.
The product range is notable for not being carbonated, unlike many of the canned wines currently available, although a sparkling white wine is planned for later in 2008.
