March 18: Canmaking companies and their suppliers in the US have been supporting efforts to help victims of the Haiti earthquake, two months after more than 200,000 were killed on the Caribbean island.
With an estimated 300,000 injured and a million homeless still needing support during the rebuilding process, the CannedWater4Kids (CW4K) project has been coordinating shipments of canned water.
After a first shipment of water arrived in late February, a second is expected to be distributed this week to a hospital and orphanage in Haiti. Greg Stromberg, metal deco sales manager at INX International, who runs CW4K, said four truckloads of canned water were shipped, using 166,320 aluminium 12-oz cans.
