August 20: Europe-based canmaking firm Impress is expanding in North America with plans to set up a plant in New York State.
With support from local development agencies, the 100,000 sq-ft plant will be constructed at Conklin and will manufacture cans for human and pet food.
Canned pet and human foods are one of the strongest growing sectors in the US business with shipments of cans up 3 percent in the year to the end of June, reaching nearly 6.5 billion.
Francis Labbé, chief executive of Impress based in Deventer, The Netherlands, said: “We continue to see good growth opportunities in the USA. We had a wide choice of locations for this major development, but we have been so impressed by the energy and the support offered by the State of New York that our decision to locate the plant here was easy.”
