March 16: A lightweight peelable end for 153mm food cans and microwaveable trays has won canmaking firm Impress the Alufoil Trophy 2010 awarded by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA).
It is a larger version of Impress’s 99mm Easy Peel end, featuring an aluminium foil membrane bonded to a steel ring, and is an alternative to traditional open-top ends.
It is compatible with existing 153mm-diameter filling lines in the markets for ambient and chilled ready meals, vegetable, soup, stew and pasta. The end is printable using a variety of techniques including digital, flexo and gravure.
