Metal food can is tops for innovation

February 4: The easy-open tinplate food can has been voted the top packaging innovation of the past 100 years by The Grocer, the UK retail trade’s most influential magazine.
It beat the aseptic carton into second place and, in the top ten, vacuum closures and drinks cans came fifth and sixth.
“Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best,” said The Grocer.
