Metal packaging leads in Brazil

September 15: Metal is the fastest-growing packaging segment in Brazil by far, according to Abre, the country’s national packaging association.
Packaging revenues grew by 8 percent in 2008 to 34.7bn reals (US$19.8bn) compared with a year earlier.
In the first half of 2008 metal packaging was the most successful segment by volume, up 20.3 percent compared to same period a year ago.
Paper and cardboard packaging was second with an increase of 2.78 percent, followed by plastics packaging, up 1.94 percent.
