Microwaveable food in cans given the green light

October 3: Metal containers are safe for cooking food in microwave ovens, says an extensive study by a top German research organisation.
The study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging concluded that in many cases wide and shallow aluminium and steel containers were better at distributing heat more evenly to food than plastics containers.
