July 11: Spain’s leading canmaker Mivisa has commissioned its third offshore plant since the beginning of the year.
The company started operations this month at Agadir, in southern Morocco, to supply drawn cans to domestic fish packers such as Groupe Bicha, Atlantic and UPA.
Morocco is the largest sardine packer in the world, processing about 700,000 tonnes that require about one billion cans a year, of which Mivisa supplies half.
“We already had half the market for sardine cans in Morocco and we intend to grow further with this new facility,” Mivisa’s managing director Tomás López told The Canmaker.
