June 21: Showa Denko, one of four Japanese canmakers manufacturing the increasingly popular aluminium bottle cans, is to make a further increase in its production capacity.
It is planning to add two necking machines to its line at Hikone which will increase capacity from 180 million to 210m bottle cans a year.
Drinks manufacturers are increasingly using the lightweight aluminium bottles, which will next year be made in the US.
