June 13: Worldwide demand for beverage cans will grow by more than four percent over the next five years to reach 268 billion in 2010, according to a recent report.
The strongest growth will be in Europe, where demand for cans for beer and soft drinks will rise by more than 25 percent to 52.5bn, and in South and Central America where demand will rise by 24 percent to 30.8bn.
To meet this increase, the canmaking industry will have to build 24 new manufacturing lines in the next five years, according to Belvac Production Machinery, a key supplier of process equipment.
